HAAAHVAD

We took a wander up to Harvard University and ended up getting a free tour around as well!  This is a picture of John Harvard the founder.  His boot has been rubbed away over the years as it is supposed to bring good luck for prosperous students trying to get in to the university, and luck for those who need it- its been said people rub body parts on it to make them improve, faces to become more beautiful etc!  Unfortunately I didn’t rub his boot this time round as they recommend you wash your hands after wards… .. next time I’ll bring the hand sanitizer.   I will be returning to see it all again when my friends fly out to work and play with me across in Boston!

On the left is a now used 'Shirt Shop' though we were told in the quide that the top two floors above were used for the secret society meetings back in the day!.. ..

On the right, is a bananna and strawberry yogurt smoothie from J.P LICKS.  I had never tried anything from here but it was so delicious!  J.P Licks is very well known here, and i can see why, it has amazing flavour and the cafes themselfs offer a nice atmospher with cows and grass all stuck to the wall.

From there we headed into Park St, Boston Common for some hard 2nd last week shopping with Adam the intern whom is leaving to go back to Scotland soon.  It’s so weird thinking that in a year I’ll be doing the same! For now though, I’m saving my pennies and playing the window shopping at its best!  We then headed to Vapianos an Italian style restaurant which accommodates pasta and pizza lovers!  There was so many choices, and I went the safe option of taglietelle carbonara, my favourite.  I couldn’t finish my mighty portion so luckily they offer doggy bags in which I’ll use for tomorrows dinner!

My running track.. .

I hope to make this a regular (not daily) thing.   There is a marvelously big lake/resevoir thats a ten minute walk down from our aparment, so I dont baloon in size I'm hoping to start running round here a few nights a week!  However I think my past 2 visits have already came with a few fly bites.  .. .

Check out the link, and see it youself. WOOOAH.

Pictures of the lake I took on my 2nd visit.  The ducks here are much bigger than the ducks in Scotland, though they are just as friendly and don't mind people walking past them.

WHAT,rain?

I treated today as my traveling day, and had looked on maps to where I was going to go but low and behold when I woke up this morning it was pouring of rain. I then decided it would be a good time to update my Flickr account which I have now done so, I haven’t tagged pictures but they are now online! One step closer to becoming a flickr’er! The sun was shortly out beaming down its lovely warm rays, and so I took a wander outside for a while, and then returned back to the flat to cool off! I’m still adjusting to the heat, it is a lot warmer then oor’bonnie Scotland..

Adam took me to this wonderful frozen yogurt place, and I tried the coconut flavour with added fresh fruit! It was so tantalisingTASTY ! So I can see myself returning shortly as it’s only a 10 minutes walk from the apartment.  CANDYcandyCANDYmmmmmmm..

Interior.. .

I put this up in my room today to make me feel more at home, in my new home.
I have however turned the flag back round, as I was reading earlier that it is against the Flag rules to hang it upside down unless I am protesting against something or showing defeat or weakness of somesort.
...

"The 50 stars on the flag represent the  50 states of the United States of America and the 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and became the first states in the Union."

REFLECTION

I’ve realised today how lucky I have been (and the future interns to travel out) that I've been able to move straight across from the UK and settle into a room, apartment, area and have someone to show me around.   Adam the intern that has already been out here in a year has showed me the ropes TRUEMENDOUSLY, making me feel more at home than I probably would of.  So far I haven’t got lost, and when wandering alone I’ve been able to co-ordinate my routes.  Unfortunately didn’t get to meet Andy who im taking over his position in the placement as he moved home as I moved out, and I briefly got to meet Heather the other intern out here who seemed very kind and helpful to as she cleaned my room, bed sheets and apartment for me moving out as Adam came to meet me at the airport.

Hello NU-Admissions.

I visited my workplace, the Northeastern Admission offices, it looks amazing! Most of the building is all brand new. AND… .. I HAVE MY OWN LITTLEOFFICE! It’s so lovely, and I met Ketty and Darren today who are so greatly welcoming and kind. I CANNOT wait to start on Monday and get my life in Boston rolling a bit faster.

I stopped of at Boston University Central on the green T line, and visited the CVS pharmacy, which is quite handy for all your daily essential. I bought a hairdryer and straighteners which will come in handy!

Conquering the T and the gym!

Today I got a little lost, I decided to go a walk from the uni/my work and ended down in Massachusetts Av, and so from there I found the T, had a quick stop of at Subway-eatfresh. And then got the T up to Haymarket to come back down the green line into Northeastern!  It seemed a long journey, but I was pleased that I was able to find where I was since I’ve almost conquered the confusing maps!

I got my security no. sorted today and just need to wait a few weeks for it now.
Tonight I went to our local Gym with the other intern Adam.  It was so much fun, since I personally love exercising anyway when I can enjoy it and carry on, I learned new gym crunches and lifts which will help my bikini bod just nicely!
Afterwards we went a 1.5 jog/sprint down round the Chestunut Hill Resevoir which is only a ten minute walk from our apartment!

So hopefully when the other interns come out in a few weeks all 3 of us will join and become toned and wonderful!.. …

Bank account&Bearings

Today I had a meeting with the ISSI to get a few documents organised, Adam the intern has helped me get to and from places which has been AMAZING! I haven’t got lost yet (touch wood).  He also took me up to meet his colleagues in his office, the international co-op office in NU, everyone seemed so welcoming and lovely.  This will be the office which my friend Katie Masheter will be working in when she arrives in August.  Only a few more weeks until she arrives and I see her again!!! Molly Aitken Sheridan is arriving in 2 weeks, so I shall have another familiar face around me in no time to!! :)

I then went into North station to get my social security no. though I needed an extra document and so I will return tomorrow when I have it… From there we went to The American Bank!! And I have now got an account with them which is handydandy. Getting organised. We then went back into Northeastern and I left Adam back at work and went shopping for food! I became a Shaws/Star member and got a loyalty card! Who needs a tesco clubcard? … ..

When home, I made my dinner and snuggled into bed, to Skype my family back home to let them know that I had settled nicely and have been getting organised better than hoped!  Things are going well.
